ISO 45001 Readiness & Support questions we are asked
- Can Premier Safety Consulting certify us to ISO 45001?
- No, and no consultancy should tell you otherwise. Certification to ISO 45001 is issued by an independent accredited certification body, and that body must be separate from the consultant who helped build the system. Premier provides consulting, gap assessment, system development and readiness support. You then engage an accredited certification body to conduct the certification audit.
- How is ISO 45001 different from a WHS management system?
- A WHS management system is whatever framework a business uses to manage safety. ISO 45001 is an international standard that sets out specific requirements for such a system, including context of the organisation, leadership, worker participation, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation and improvement. A compliant WHS system is not automatically an ISO 45001 conforming system, though a good one is usually most of the way there.
- How long does readiness take?
- It depends entirely on your starting point. A business with a mature, well-run system may need a few months of alignment work; one starting from templates needs considerably longer. The gap assessment answers this question properly.
